Hospital Donations

Recently three new medical volunteers arrived to the island, Shaheer, Fares and AJ.  Shaheer and Fares are medical students in Bahrain, 2 years into their course, by coming to Naifaru's hospital they are getting the opportunity to learn how a hospital is run, and getting a jump start on medical practice.  AJ has completed his time at medical school in New Zealand, and will soon be practicing as a doctor, this is a great opportunity to learn how

The Nature Club has started!

The new school term has meant that we can finally start the nature club.  There are two schools in the Lhaviyani atoll taking part in the nature club.  We aim to improve their knowledge of the marine environment and its importance.  'Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world,' especially when educating youth who are our future leaders.  There will be lectures and activities such as beach clean ups. January brings Hawksbill and Olive Ridley turtles

2016 has brought a lot of action to the Atoll Marine Centre.  The centre received La Petite from the four seasons resort, an Olive Ridley turtle that had its left flipper severed when hit by a boat.  Four seasons tended to her wounds and then she came to the centre to spend time in the sea cage and see if she could start to dive again.  If a turtle cannot dive, they cannot survive in the wild. Atoll Marine Centre in December

In December we saw the arrival of a green turtle hatchling, which was soon named Jonathan by our Marine Biologist, Ben.  At two weeks old he was in very good shape and active. We finished our art piece, made from recycled bottle caps.  The idea is to raise awareness about the impacts of plastic on the marine environment and to show potential ways of recycling.  Hopefully what we have produced is thought-provoking and will inspire people to come

Hosting a stall at the LECReD fair

The Low Emission Climate Resilient Development (LECRed) Progamme works to mainstream resource efficiency and climate change into local development planning.  Atoll marine centre was invited to take part in the event.  We used our stall to present our marine conservation projects and to expand our partnerships! Women’s National Volleyball Championship November 2015

Taking part in the Women's National Volleyball championship.  The championship is sponsored by MWSC and Coco Cola in association with Atoll Marine Centre, Maldives Originals and Redbull.  This is a fantastic opportunity for a wonderful group of women to show their sporting and team work skills.  Activities such as volleyball are a fun way to keep you fit and healthy and this national competition is a great way to get everyone involved.

Naifaru Juvenile organises swimming classes for Ifthithaah 5th graders

Naifaru Juvenile conducted a “Swim and Survive” Program from 14-26 September with grade five students from Madhurasathul Ifthithaah . 56 students participated in the lessons, held from 3pm-6pm each day at the beach in front of the Marine Centre and then later in the New Harbour. The lessons were conducted by volunteers from Atoll Volunteers, Naifaru Police, MNDF Northern Area and the Maldivian Lifeguard Association. Swimming lessons involved

Naifaru Juvenile Participated Asia Regional Civil Society Experience Summit

On September 8-10, 2014, an Asia Regional Civil Society Experience Summit was held in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was attended on behalf of Naifaru Juvenile by the organisation’s Vice-Chairperson, Mohamed Ahmed.
