We are one of our community’s oldest and most active NGOs and we work to create a stronger community through projects that involve or affect all the people of our island.
Naifaru Juvenile establishes a local market with help from UNDP and SSGF to improve small business initiatives in Naifaru. The building was set up to the south of Naifaru harbour and holds a number of rooms suitable for small businesses. The initiative is especially aimed to help the community recover from the devastating effects of the tsunami by assisting small-scale entrepreneurs in setting up businesses.
This project is tailored to suit Naifaru as the island has a reputation for quality home made products. The market will act as a selling point of all home made products on the island as well as neighbouring islands. On Naifaru alone, approximately 50 % of the population is unemployed and this initiative aims to bring that rate down.
The UNDP and SSGF South-South Grants Facility donated MRF 94,107.75 and UNDP donated 108,582.50 to the construction of the market.
