GRAND OPENING CEREMONY OF ‘’TINY FIELD’’ COMMUNITY PARK

The opening ceremony of ‘’Tiny Field’’ community park on Naifaru Island took place on 5th January 2013 at 5pm. Approximately 2000 local people attended the opening ceremony. Amongst these were the official people that were invited: Atoll Council members, Management from Felivaru fisheries, officials from the government office and some senior citizens.

The history of ‘’Tiny Field’’ community began on the 4th June 2012 when permission was received from Naifaru Island Council to create the community park. On the 6th June 2012 the area was cleared to be able to start the construction of the park and the first tree was planted. The park boundaries were built along with the café ‘hut’ the track to be used for children’s bikes and cars, football pitch and the entrance to the park. Then everything was painted. The park was now ready to install all the play equipment: swings, see-saw, slide, play house and springy toys, trampoline and tables and benches.

The opening ceremony began with Mohamed Ehab reading from the Holy Quran, following was Sabeeha Mohamed who gave an introductory speech. Quraisha Abdul Baaree then spoke about what the park meant to the community as a whole and how the park was the responsibility of the community, so the children of the island could enjoy for many years to come. Then Miss Caroline from Evolution events cut the ribbon at the entrance to the park, to mark the official opening. Refreshments were then served.

It was a beautiful sunny day and the day was made even more beautiful by the number of people from the Island that attended and the happy smiling faces of the children of Naifaru having fun in their new park.

We would like to thank all donors and donations and volunteers that helped us create ‘Tiny Fields’ community park: Evolution Events who generously donated the play equipment. Felivaru Fisheries who kindly donated compost for planting the trees. Kuredu Island Resort kindly donated construction materials. Also local businesses kindly contributed. We would also like to thank all the volunteers that gave up there time and energy to help us.
