With the objective of creating awareness about gender equality and women’s human rights, a 3-day workshop was held and conducted by the Ministry of Health and Gender, UN Women, Hope for Women and IPPF under the She Core+ Initiative run by Naifaru Juvenile.

The main focus of the workshop was to increase awareness about the challenges faced by women in the Maldivian community, how men can contribute to the empowerment of women and what women can do to increase their participation and role in the community. The topics of the workshop were gender mainstreaming, the difference between gender, sex and socialisation as well as gender concepts.

The target audience of this workshop was the entire community of Naifaru along with government officials, and at the end of the workshop, a supportive group was formed with the aim of working for women’s human rights in Naifaru.
