Disability Awareness Workshop for Parents and Teachers

Let’s eliminate plastic bags on Naifaru – an Eco-Bag for every household!

Distribution has begun of eco-friendly shopping bags for all residents of Naifaru. These bags were developed through a World Bank funded program called “Let’s Go Zero Waste” of which the final aim is to eliminate excess waste from Naifaru and to reduce the amount of plastic burnt to keep our island beautiful and atmosphere safe. “Explore the Possibilities” Youth Conference held for Lh. Atoll NGO network representatives

The purpose of this conference was to gather young NGO volunteers from Lhaviyani Atoll to discuss the importance of good governance, women's empowerment, gender equality and community development, and ultimately to educate these young Maldivian citizens on the international political landscape, and how they fit into it locally. “Reach your potential” Youth Camp held on Naifaru for future community leaders of Lh. Atoll

As part of Naifaru Juvenile's Youth Mentorship and Leadership Programme, a project implemented under UNDP Maldives Small Grants Facility (SGF), the Leadership camp was developed with the aim of teaching these young leaders the necessary skills to be able to implement their own projects on their home islands. Two representatives complete VCT training conducted by Health Protection Agency

  Two representatives from Naifaru Juvenile attended a training workshop last week in Male' on Voluntary Counseling Testing (VCT), run by a Health Protection Agency from the Ministry of Health. The intensive one-week course ran from the 17th-23rd of March, and was professional development for counselors working with clients who present themselves voluntarily for HIV testing. Maldives Environmental Management Workshop for Local Facilitators

Environmental Waste Program for School Students

Over the month of February, two international volunteers ran an awareness course in Madharushathul Ifthithaah School for Grade 10 students about management of the community’s natural resources. Matthew Morgan, from England, delivered presentations on topics such as the dangers of overfishing, sustainable fishing methods, critiques of current local fishing practices, as well as general fish and coral identification of local species. Grand opening of the Community Youth Centre Complex

On Saturday 9th March, Naifaru Juvenile was proud to open our newly-completed Community Youth Centre Complex. Having worked consistently with the island’s youth, and always trying to give them opportunities for progress, we remarked that the island has very few facilities to engage them.
