We are one of our community’s oldest and most active NGOs and we work to create a stronger community through projects that involve or affect all the people of our island.
An awareness session under SHE core plus initiative project was conducted on “High Risk Groups of HIV” with an audience of 15 participants by Aminath Reema Mahfooz (Naifaru Juvenile Counsellor and Peer Educator at SHE core+).
The purpose of conducting the session on the topics of HIV and STI’s was due to our belief that it is important to make youths aware of the risky groups in their community since they belong to the community and they are the upcoming servers of the community.
In the session, the participants were made aware of the high risk groups of HIV transmission in our community.
The description of each risk group was discussed and the reason they become risky was discussed within groups and later among the entire group of participants.
The second part of the session was on “STI’s” in which the cause, signs, symptoms and treatment for the STI’s were discussed.
The participants were made aware of different STD’s with their names, signs and symptoms and it was made clear how they could contract an STD and the treatment for these.
Throughout the session, games and activities were run giving a more detailed idea of the topic to the participants.
Their motivation and the co-operation showed the usefulness and admiration of the work we are doing. Their questions and the feedback they gave showed their interest in the sessions.
